Funeral services for Sophia Schoelerman were held at Trinity United Church of Christ at Hartley on Thursday morning, Feb 16. Rev. Bernard Sayler officiated. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley, with the Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Sophia Schoelerman, the daughter of Johann and Antje Friesman Jannsen, was born October 12, 1880 in Benton County, near Keystone, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to William Schoelerman in O'Brien county, on June 8, 1896. They became the parents of four children and farmed in the Hartley area. In 1927 they retired and moved into town and William died in 1943. Since that time Sophia had made her home with a daughter, Cecelia, in California.

She passed away in California on February 13, 1978 at the age of 97. Preceding her in death besides her husband were a son, Nickolus and a granddaughter, Lois.

Left to cherish her memory are one son, Alfred of Hartley; two daughters, Mrs. Denny (Cecelia) Swanson of South San Francisco, California, and Mrs. Clara Fahlenkamp of Riverbank, California and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Helen Schoelerman; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-nine great grandchildren; twenty great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
