Mrs. Wilhelmine Mertens Puhrmann who has been a resident of this community for many years, and is well and favorably known here, died Sunday, August 5th at her home near Paullina at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 3 days Funeral services for her were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Fred Warnke, Jr. home and then at the Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Harimeister officiating. Interment was made in the Prairie View Cemetery.
Wilhelmine Mertens was born on the 2nd day of November, 1852 at Brandenburg, Germany. At the age of fifteen years, she came to America with her parents and settled near Homewood, Ill.
On November 23, 1873, she was united in marriage to John Puhrmann. Six years later she came to Iowa with her husband and settled in this community where she has lived many years. Her husband preceded her in death about three years, he having passed away in the year of 1925. Deceased is survived by three sons and four daughters: John H. of Paullina, Henry, Arthur and Mrs. H. Boysen in Nebrabska; Mrs. Fred Warnke, Jr., Mrs. William Appeldorn and Mrs. Walter J. Miller of Marcus.
She was a loving and devoted mother and will be greatly missed by her family. The Times extends its sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
Relatives and friends from away who attended the funeral were Mr. Fred Puhrmann, Mrs. Ralph Ryan and children of Chicago, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Young, Mra. and Mrs. Fred Meyer, Mrs. Carl Kuehn, of Marcus, Mrs. D.D. Hupp of Laurel, Nebraska, Mr. William Long, Mrs. Harvey Johnson, and Mrs. Stanley Cox of Ayrshire, Iowa, Mr.a nd Mrs. John Hoehstein and two daughters and children of Okabena, Minnesota and Mra. and Mrs. Alber Strampe of Hartley.
