Melvin William Puhrmann, 78, of Concord, NE, and formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, August 21, 1994, at a nursing home in Laurel, NE, after a seven-month illness. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 25, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dixon with the
Rev. Rodney Kneifl officiating. Burial with military graveside services was in the Community Cemetery in Concord.OBITUARY
Mr. Puhrmann was born September 18, 1915, at Paullina, Iowa, the son of John H. and Tina (Kock) Puhrmann. He married Clara C. Neis June 9, 1941, in Bonesteel, SD. He was an Army Veteran of W.W. II. After his discharge from the service, the couple moved to Bonesteel,
SD, where he operated the Locker Plant and other businesses. They then moved to Laurel, NE, where he was manager of the I.G.A. Grocery
Store. They later moved to Sioux City where he was purchaser for the Fremost Grocery Store Chain. He also attended Morningside College
where he received a masters degree in teaching in 1966.He was an elementary teacher at Cherokee, Iowa, Hinton, Iowa, and the Immaculate Conception School in Sioux City. He retired from teaching in 1975, and the couple moved to Concord, NE, where he was employed at Northeast Nebraska
Research Center for eight years.Mr. Puhrmann was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Dixon and the V.F.W. in Laurel.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mary and her husband, Dwight Johnson of Allen, NE; two sons and their wives: Robert and Freda of Bokoshe, OK, and John and Terry of Boerney, TX; a sister, Velma Schmidt of Primghar, IA; two
sisters-in-law, Gladys Puhrmann and Regina Puhrmann, both of Paullina,IA; seven grandchildren: Rebecca Brown, Diana Goins, Lynn, Jonathen, Carrie and Mike Puhrmann and
Jennifer Crom; and five great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harry and Elmer.
Honorary Pallbearers were Dick
Hansen, Vic Carlson, Glen Magnuson, Don Roeder, Bill Garvin, Norman Anderson, Jim Clarkson and Earl Nelson. Pallbearers were Richard Schmidt, Carl, Leonard and Jonathen Puhrmann, Mike Johnson and Mike
Crom.
