Edwin Herman Miller, the son of Herman and Lulu Frick Miller, was born at Hartley, Iowa. September 18, 1921. He was educated in schools near his childhood home. He was united in marriage to Arlene I. Rost at Worthington, Minn., on October 31, 1942.

He served with the U. S. Army from 1943 until 1945 during World War II, the last 24 months of this time being spent in the European Theatre of operation. Following his discharge from the service, he and his wife farmed near Hartley for five years, then moved into Hartley and were engaged in a local business for the next five years.

Since he was sixteen years of age, Eddie played for dances, and had his own band for the past 27 years. He drove a bus for the Hartley schools for 19 years. For the last 15 years he had been a tax assessor for the town of Hartley. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ at Hartley, the Arthur Kirchhoff Post of the American Legion, the Musician's Union Local No. 405, the Order of the Moose and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He passed away at the Hartley Hospital on February 26, 1974 at the age of 52 after a pain-filled illness of 26 months. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Miller of Hartley; one brother Delmar of Hartley; one half-sister, Mrs. Arthur (Viola) Plopper of Hartley and one half-brother Verlin C. Fitzer of Washington, D.C., as well as his many friends and other relatives.

Services in memory of Edwin Miller were held at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley on Thursday, Feb. 28, 1974 with Rev. Bernard Sayler officiating. Military services were conducted at graveside by the Arthur W. Kirchhoff Post No. 288 of Hartley. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley, Iowa with the Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge.
