Duane Lee Bobzien (1977-2005)

Duane Lee Bobzien, the son of Gaylord and Florene (Morgan) Bobzien, was born in Primghar, Iowa on March 7, 1977. He grew up in rural Hartley, Iowa. He attended Hartlcy-Melvin-Sanborn High school and graduated in 1995.

He married Michelle Schaap on February 24, 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Following high school, Duane worked as a salesman for Rain Soft Water of Spirit Lake, Iowa and for Cleary Building Corporation of LeMars, Iowa. He then returned to Primghar and started his own construction business, Bobzien Construction.

Duane has two daughters, Jaden Lynn Bobzien of Primghar, who is four years old, and McKenzie Schaap who is ten years old.

Left to cherish his memory are: his special friend, Anne Rust and daughter, Alexis Madsen of LeMars, Iowa; his parents, Gaylord and Florene Bobzien of Hartley; his brothers: Donald, David, Doug, and Dan; his sisters, Donna, Deb, Dawn; and his grandparents, Kenneth Morgan of Dexter, Iowa, and Genevieve Rodenberg of Spencer, Iowa. Duane had five nieces, five nephews, two great-nieces, three great-nephews, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Clarence and Mabyl Bobzien, Betty Morgan, Allen Rodenberg; and brother, Dennis.

Duane was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Hartley. He loved racing, especially figure eight racing with the Primghar Jaycee Club in Primghar, and NASCAR racing. He loved all sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings. Duane loved poetry and even had some of his work published. He loved everything to do with nature, especially taking his girls fishing.

His last wish was granted with a car ride to South Dakota to celebrate his life with family and friends.

A funeral service in memory of Duane Lee Bobzien was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2005 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley, Iowa. Rev. David Ericksen officiated. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley, Iowa. Hartley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
