Charles Eugene West (1850-1932)

The remains of Charles West were brought to this city Tuesday from his late home at Devils Lake , N.D. where he passed away last Friday. The deceased will be remembered by the older residents of Hartley, as he spent the years from 1888 to 1905 in this city and was engaged in contracting and house moving during those years, removing to North Dakota in the latter part of 1905.

Charles Eugene West was born May 19th, 1869 [sic 1850]at Green Bush,Wisconsin. He was married in 1889 to Miss Jane Haigh, and to this union were born four children, three of whom are living: two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Dubbert of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Mrs. Ruth Busby of Laurey City, Mo; and Will West of Hay Springs, Nebr.

Mrs. Jane Haigh-West passed away in 1902 and deceased wed Mrs. Emma Castleman in 1905 and resided at Devils Lake to the date of his passing.

Chas. West was a life-long member of the I. O. O. F. lodge and the funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian church at Devils Lake by Rev. Fahl, grand secretary of the order.

Ten grandchildren, a brother and a sister besides the two daughters and one son are left to mourn his passing.

The funeral services in this city were conducted by Rev. Budy from the Temple Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Tuesday and the remains laid at rest in Pleasant View cemetery.
