Harry Gibbs Passed Away Early Saturday

Harry Claudius Gibbs was born January 14, 1874 on a farm near Primghar, Iowa. He passed away in his home in Sanborn early Saturday morning, July 31, 1943, at the age of 69 years, six months and 17 days.

At the age of six he moved with his parents to Sanborn, Iowa, where he has lived the past 63 years. On May 17, 1900, he was married to Blanch Peeler of Lehigh, Iowa. To this union God gave four children They are Mrs. Vera DeRoos of Chero­kee, Ia.; Wilfred, of Santa Monica, Calif.; Mrs. Dorothy Hanson of Sheldon, Ia.; and William, of Sheldon.

For fifteen years he was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Sanborn and was a member of the Yeoman Lodge of Sanborn for twelve years. For 30 years ha was a rural mail earlier, and a member of the Rural Carriers Association. In the fall of 1934, he retired from the mail carrier work.

Surviving him are his wife, two sons and two daughters, five grand­children; and three brothers: Frank Gibbs of Sibley, Milton Gibbs of Sanborn, and Ben Gibbs of Los Angeles, Calif.

Mr. Gibbs has made and held a mul­titude of friends in his work and social activities in the community. For eight months he has been a constant sufferer. March 9, 1943, he was operated upon at the University Hospital at Iowa City. He seemed to rally and was brought to his home, but failed steadily in health until a few days before his death, he broke his leg and became bedfast, the end coming quickly after that.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. R. J. Rutt, at 1:30 in the family home and at 2 o'clock in the Presbyterian church. Mrs. R. H. Leonard sang, "Leave It To Him" and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought," accompanied by Mrs. Rutt. Burial was in the family lot in Roscland Cemetery. Pallbearers were Hobart Putnam and Clarence McDon­ald, of Hartley,' Joe Vollink and George Breyfogle^ Primghar, V. G. Powers and C. S. Norland, Sanborn, all lural mail carriers. Those from out of town attending the funeral services were Wilfred Gibbs, Santa Monica, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Tony DeRoos and daughter, Kathleen, oi Cherokee; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hanson, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gibbs, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Ruby and sons, Warren and Laurence, Clifford and Clayton Ruby, all of Sheldon; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gibbs, Sibley; Mr. and Mrs. Arley Hickey and daughter, Sally, of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Will Johannson, Paullma; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Jergens and Jimmie, Mrs. Clarence McDonald, all of Hartley; Roy Tifft from Clinton, Iowa.
