Vernelle Herman William Ebert,
the son of Walter and Alvena Hoeppner
Ebert, was born at Paullina,
Iowa in O'Brien County, on December
14, 1918. He was educated
in area schools near his childhood
home and was a resident of the
Sutherland, Iowa area until 1960
In December of 1940 he was
united in marriage to Oleatha
Thortsen. They became the parents
of three children. A fourth
child, a son Vern, and Oleatha
preceded Vernelle in death in 1956.
On January 16, 1959 he was
united in marriage to Agnes Morris.
The couple moved to Cherokee
in 1960 and for the last eight
years he had been employed at
the Cherokee Mental Health Institute.
He served in the United States
army during the Second World
War and spent over a year in
the European Theatre of War. He
received his honorable discharge
on October 23, 1945.
He passed away suddenly on
September 3, 1972 at Cherokee at
the age of 53. Preceding him in
death were his parents and a stepson,
Left to cherish; his memory are
his wife, one son Jerry of Cherokee,
two daughters, Mrs. Richard
(Judith) Schweitzer of Lincoln, Nebraska
and Mrs. Edgar (Sharon)
Page of Omaha, Nebr., two stepsons,
James and Richard Morris,
three grandchildren, fifteen step grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
