FUNERAL SERVICES FOR VERNON EASTHOUSE

Merle Vernon Easthouse, the son of Martin and Georgia Squire Easthouse, was born September 28, 1899 at Emmetsburg, Iowa. He came with his parents as a young boy to farm south of Hartley, Iowa. He was educated in schools near his childhood home and was a graduate of Hartley High School.

He was united in marriage at Davenport, Iowa on November 25, 1944 to Cecelia E. Meier. The couple farmed near Hartley until moving to town in 1955. "Easty" as he was known, stayed active during his retirement and painted for some years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hartley.

He passed away on October 16, 1974 as a result of a car accident that occurred near his home. He was 75.

Preceding him in death were his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife; four sisters, Mrs. S. L. (Maree) Slaughter, Mrs. Clarence (Verle) Williams and Mrs. J. (Oma) Archer, all of San Diego, California and Mrs. C. I. (Corla) Dorn of San Jose, California, as well as other relatives and friends.

Services were held Saturday, October 19 at 2:00 in the afternoon at the United Methodist Church for Vernon Easthouse, the Rev. Robert McBlain officiating. Casket bearers were Heinie Olhausen, William Gruhn, Emil Muhs, Mervyn Stearns, Amos Lloyd and Merlvn Schoelerman. -Mr. Easthouse is at rest at the Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley, Iowa. The Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
