MARTIN A. EASTHOUSE

Martin A. Easthouse was born in Bergen, Norway on May 6, 1863 When he was three years old the family migrated to the United States and settled in Story County, Iowa near the town of Cambridge. At the age of twenty-two he went to Audubon County and worked as a farm laborer for several years.

On October 2, 1890 he was married to Miss Georgie Squire, to which union - five children, one son and four daughters, were born. Mr and Mrs. Easthouse operated a farm in Audubon County for four years and then moved to the vicinity of Emmetsburg where they operated a farm for six years. In 1900 they moved to the farm south of Hartley, which was in the possession of the family until two and one-half years ago when the farm was sold and Mr. and Mrs. Easthouse moved to Hartley. In 1940 they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary

Deceased had been in fair health until about five weeks ago when he fell while walking up town and fractured his collarbone and hip bone. He was taken to the Hand Hospital for care and a few days ago moved to the Brundage Nursing Home in Primghar. It was thought that he was resting well. Mrs. Easthouse had accompanied her daughter, Mrs. Cooper, to Peoria, Illinois for a few days rest. On Sunday last it became evident that he was failing rapidly and the wife was notified, but before she was able to arrive home the husband slipped quietly into the great beyond, having reached the age of nearly 82 years.

Mr Easthouse had been a faithful and life long member of the Methodist church taking an active part in all its activities. He had been a member of the church board for many years and when his advancing age made it impossible to take this responsibility he was made an honorary member.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Georgie Easthouse, four daughters, Mrs. Corla Dorn of San Jose, Calif., Mrs. Oma Archer of Maywood, Calif, Mrs. Maree Slaughter of Peru, So. Amer, Mrs. Verio Cooper of Peoria, 111.; one son, Vernon, of Peoria, Ill.; and one brother, Thomas, of Turlock, Calif, besides many other relatives and friends.

Music was by Miss Florence Fahlenkamp who sang "Shall We Gather at the River", and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" accompanied by Mrs. H. B. Pike at the organ. Mrs. Pike also played a solo on the organ. Pall bearers were Roy Staines, H. B. Pike, Ernest Ahrenstorff, Hobart Putnam, John Linder and W H Schnarr.
