Alvin Eugene Keyser (1919-2001)

Alvin Eugene Keyser, the son of Orville and Gladys Schoop Keyser, was born on November 10, 1919, in Walthill, Nebraska. He attended Walthill schools and graduated from Walthill High School in 1937.

On March 15, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorothy "Jean" Dueling in Omaha, Nebraska. After their marriage the couple settled in South Sioux City, Nebraska, where he was employed by the Northern Natural Gas Company. In 1960, the couple moved to Paullina where Al continued his employment with Northern Natural Gas. He retired from Northern Natural in 1983, working a total of 36 years as a utility repairman.

The couple spent their retirement years in Paullina until moving to The Woodlands, Texas, in June of 1999. He passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2001, at The Woodlands Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas, reaching the age of 81 years, 5 months and 26 days.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina. Alvin was active in the church, serving on the session and various committees within the church. He was a former member of the Paullina Lions Club and the Oddfellows Lodge of South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Al is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Jean" Keyser of The Woodlands, Texas; two sons and their wives: Richard and Laurie Keyser and Robert and Cathie Keyser, all of The Woodlands, Texas; one daughter and her husband, Joni and Mark Kraayenbrink of Decorah, Iowa; seven grandchildren: [redacted]; one sister, Mrs. LaVonne Dean of South Sioux City, Nebraska; also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two infant daughters at birth, Nancy Jean and Mary Lou; parents and one brother, Melvin.

Funeral services for Alvin E. Keyser were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 11, 20D1, at the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, Iowa, with Rev. Donald Freeman officiating. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Because He Lives" were sung by the congregation. The organist was Mrs. Marilyn Ewoldt. The casket bearers were Al Kraayenbrink, Wallace Simm, Burl Green, Curt Berntson, Philip Simm and Clarence Postma. Interment was at the Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.
