Max William Brehmer (1916-1943)

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church for Max Wilson Brehmer, 26, who died Monday in San Francisco, Calif., from injuries suffered when he fell while doing carpenter work there. Rev. Geo. Scheider, pastor of the church had charge of the funeral services. Pall bearers were Henry and Tom Bockelman of Sioux City, Lawrence and Clarence Jipp, Orland Krutzfeldt and Ralph Geiser. Interment was in Pleasant View cemetery.

Max Wilson Brehmer was born in Hartley township on October 28, 1916, the fourth son of John and Alma Brehmer. He was baptized in infancy by Rev. Tompkins. He received his education in the Hartley schools and graduated with the class of 1934.

He, with his twin brother, Maurice, took up the carpenter trade and followed it until his death in San Francisco, Calif., on June 7th. He fell from a truss to the pavement and fractured his skull.

Max was a faithful member of the Methodist Sunday School and attended regularly. He made friends easily and counted them by the score.

He leaves to mourn his departure his grief stricken father and mother, three brothers, Merritt of Fort Klamath, Ore., Forrest of Oakland, Calif., and his twin brother, Maurice of San Francisco, Calif., 2 sisters, Louise of San Francisco and Amy at home. He reached the age of 26 years, seven months and ten days. His brother, Louis, preceded him to the great beyond just six weeks ago, following a motorcycle accident.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Brehmer of Fort Klamath, Ore., Maurice Brehmer of San Francisco, Calif., Art Lage of Pueblo, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dale and Evonne and Mrs. Midge Garthwaite, all of Hawarden, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bockelman, Sr., Paul Bockelman, Jr., Tom Bockelman and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bockelman of Sioux City.
