Lesa "Lizzie" Dahnke, the daughter of Herman and Alvena Voege Wittrock, was born April 2, 1903 in Sutherland, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Sutherland, where she received her education, gradu­ating from Sutherland High School.

Lizzie married Irvin Dahnke on December 20, 1922 in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they moved to Hartley where they farmed for many years. They moved into the town of Hartley in 1977.

Mrs. Dahnke passed away at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa on Friday, September 7, 2001 at the age of 98.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin on March 1, 1989; four brothers: Ernest, Otto, George and Harry; three sisters: Mattie, Rose and Ella; and a son-in-law, Elfred Eifert.

She is survived by two daughters: Phyllis Eifert of Hartley, and Shirley and her husband, Gary Swanson of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; two grandchildren: Lisa Swanson and Mark Swanson; one brother, Ed Wittrock of Hartley; a sister-in-law, Velma Wittrock of Oceanside, California; other relatives and friends.

Services in memory of Lizzie Dahnke were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2001, at the Hartley United Methodist Church in Hartley, Iowa. Pastor Mike Wilier officiated. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner Funeral Home of Hartley was in charge of the arrangements.
