Chris Karl Guse, son of the late Christopher and Augusta (Zanott) Guse, was born in Teonka, Germany, on Nov. 20, 1875, and departed this life at his home in Worthington, Minn., on Sept. 3, 1934, having attained the age of 58 years, 10 months and 17 days. His death was due to cancer of the spine of which he had been a patient sufferer for the past ten months.

In the year 1883, when the deceased was a lad of 8 years of age, he came with his parents to America, settling in the town of Sanborn. Here he attended the Sanborn public schools and grew to young manhood. When 14 years of age he was confirmed in the German Lutheran faith at Sanborn.

In starting out in life for himself he first secured employment in the Milwaukee railroad shops in Sanborn where he worked until in the year 1899 when he left Sanborn and went to Sioux City where he entered the employ of the Omaha railroad in the capacity of fireman and later was promoted to engineer. In the year 1917 he was transferred from Sioux City to Worthington, Minn., which place he had since worked out of and made his home.

On Jan. 6, 1921, Mr. Guse was united in marriage to Mary Petersen of Worthington, Minn.

The deceased was a member of the Swedish Lutheran church at Worthington and was a!so affiliated with the Masonic lodge of Worthington and the Shrine at Sioux City which membership he later transferred to Sioux Falls, S. D. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers of Sioux City Division S2.

Mr. Guse was one of a family of nine children and was preceeded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Of his immediate family he leaves to mourn his widow, Mrs. Mary Guse, a step-daughter and two granddaughters of Worthington, two brothers, Albert H. Guse, and William A. Guse of Sanborn, two sisters, Mrs Jerry Greves of Melvin and Mrs. Marie Kowalke of Sheldon, besides numerous other relatives.

Mr. Guse will be greatly missed by his family, relatives and associates. Always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need, he was a good citizen and an upright Christian man, faithful in his work, and congenial in his fellowship with others.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the Swedish Lutheran church in Worthington with their local pastor in charge who was assisted in the services by the church choir. The floral offerings were many and beautiful and bore mute evidence of the high esteem the deceased was held by his relatives and friends. The body was brought to Sanborn where burial was made in the family lot in Roseland cemetery. Brother Masons of Worthington acted as pall-bearers with Masonic funeral rites being held at the cemetery N. S. Pippinger and Robt. Inman, brother Masons of Sanborn, took part in the Masonic services at the cemetery.

Relatives and friends attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Guse, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Guse, Mr. Chas. Guse, daughter, Mrs. Minnie Tipp, Mrs. W. J. Gibbs, and Mrs. Minnie Steuck, all oNSanborn; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Greves, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Groves of Melvin; Mrs. Marie Ko walke of Sheldon, Mr. Bernard Guse of Beloit, Wis., Mr. John Neitzke of Hartley, and Mr. and Will Steuck of Primghar.
