Herman Storm, Sr. was born in Pommer [sic], Germany on October 15, 1850. Hoping to better his way of life he came to the United States with his brother, Ferdinand, in 1880. He settled on a farm of 80 acres three miles west and one and a half miles south of Sanborn.

Justine Marquardt was born in Tarnowke, Germany in 1865 and came to the United States in 1882 with her brother, Gustav. In Sanborn she worked for Mr. Frank Teabout, an early and prominent settler of O'Brien County, who bought 360 acres of land at $2.00 per acre.

On November 5, 1886 Herman Storm and Justine Marquardt were married in the Lutheran Church at Sanborn with Pastor Goppelt officiating. It was the first wedding in the congregation.

In 1899 Herman and Justine Storm bought 160 acres west of Sanborn where the Storm school was located. This is now the homeplace of Vernon and Betty Storm and family. Some years later they bought another 160 three miles west and two and a fourth miles south of Sanborn where Leonard Storm now lives.

The children of Herman, Sr. and Justine Storm were: William, Theodor, Herman, Jr., Minnie, Ida, Marie, Agnes, Albert, and Elsie. Of these Ida, Agnes, Albert, and Elsie are still living. Ida is Mrs. George Leemkuil of Sanborn. Agnes is Mrs. Orson Stout of Tanan, California; and Elsie is Mrs. Dick Smith of Worthington, Minn.

Herman, Sr. died April 15, 1918 and his wife passed away September 19, 1953. Burial is at Roseland Cemetery, rural Sanborn.
