Dietrich Hinkey (1867-1951)

Dietrich Hinkey, son of Henry and Margaret nee Priest, was born in Jackson County, Iowa, on February 24, 1867. In infancy he was baptized and later confirmed his faith in the Lutheran Church. Mr. Hinkey came to O'Brien County in 1888, moving here with his family. During his early years in this area he worked on farms about Hartley.

Dietrich Hinkey and Henrietta Voss were united in holy marriage at Primghar, Iowa, on November 22, 1909. Two children were born to this marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Hinkey moved into the town of Hartley in 1911 and have resided here since that time. Dietrich Hinkey managed a cream and poultry station in Hartley, retiring from business in about 1943.

Death came to Dietrich Hinkey on Wednesday, September 19, 1951, at the age of 84 years, six months and 19 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers and three sisters. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Henrietta Hinkey, one daughter, Kathryn Crowner and one son; William Hinkey, both of Hartley; four grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

Services were held at the Foley Funeral Home on Saturday, September 22, with Rev. B. Romanowski of Trinity Evangelical and Reformed Church officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Harold Gonnerman at the piano and a quartet composed of Mrs. E. Selken, Mrs. F. Glackin, W. R. Wagner, and Rev. B. Romanowski who sang "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "God Will Take Care of You". Pallbearers were Henry Baumgarn, Albert Leth, Henry Lorenzen, Ed Swanson, Melvin Tuttle and Lars Bersheim. Interment was made in Pleasant View Cemetery.
