Louisa (Muhs) Orthmann (1886-1937)

Louisa Muhs Orthmann was born at Wolcott, Scott County, Iowa on March 8, 1886, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Muhs. When about seven years of age, she came with her parents to a farm near Hartley.

She attended the Hartley schools, and lived at Hartley until her marriae to Eugenos Orthmann on February 28, 1908. Three children were born, Luella, Idelia, and Eugenos, Jr.

Mrs. Orthmann after her marriage lived for a year on a farm south of Hartley, then moved to a farm near Paullina. Here she remained until 1919 when the family took up permanent residence in Paullina.

Mr Orthmann preceded his wife in death in the fall of 1936. There survive the two daughters, Mrs. Omer Tuttle, of Hartley, Miss Idella Orthmann, of Paullina, and the son Eugenos, Jr., besides a granddaughter and many relatives and friends who mourn her passing.

Mrs. Eugenos Orthmann was laid to rest Saturday afternoon In Prairie View cemetery at Paulllna, Iowa. The funeral was held in the home of the elder daughter, Mrs. Omer Tuttle, at Hartley, Iowa, and in the First Presbyterian church of Paullina. The Rev Walter R. Clyde, Jr., minister of the Paullina church, officiated. Hymns were sung in the church by a quartet composed of Mrs. Virginia Harris. Miss Laverne Seagren, Mr Selmer Larson and Mr Robert Rohwer Flowers were in charge of Mrs. John Thome and Mrs. William Powell, of Hartley, and Miss Tena Mews and Miss Martha Ottzen of Paulllna. Pall-bearers were Mr Wm. Hilkcr, Mr Wm. Simm, Mr. Wm. Jaacks, Mr Harry Bloodgood, Mr. Joy Kiser, Mr Karl Seagren.
