Clarence Albert Nelson, the son of Burton [sic - Berton] and Grace Andrie Nelson, was born June 30, 1918 in Sutherland, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Sutherland, where he received his education. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Air Force from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946.

Clarence married Ruth Brown on October 8, 1944 in Long Beach, California. Following their marriage, they farmed near Sutherland for many years, until his retirement in 1983.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sutherland. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Farm Bureau in Sutherland.

Mr. Nelson passed away at the Sutherland Care Center on Monday, November 24, 2003 at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth Nelson on October 25, 2003 and one sister, Eleanor Ritchey. He is survived by one son, Thomas Nelson of Storm Lake; three grandchildren: Matthew, Molly and Mamy; two great grandchildren: Ethan and Abby Nelson-Vogeler; other relatives and friends.

Services were held for Clarence Albert Nelson on Friday, November 28, 2003 at Warner Funeral Home in Sutherland, Iowa with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Military services were held by American Legion Post #152, Sutherland, Iowa. Music interludes included "In The Garden" and "I Can Only Imagine". Casket Bearers were members of American Legion Post #152, Sutherland, Iowa. Interment was in Waterman Cemetery, Sutherland, Iowa under the arrangement of Warner Funeral Home Sutherland, Iowa.
