Emma (Leverenz) Hattermann Briggie (1880-1969)

Mrs Emma Briggie, the daughter of Carl Leverenz and Friedaricka Passehl, was born on September 17, 1880, in Union Township of O'Erien County, Iowa. She was the first child to be baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church of Germantown on November 24, 1880. She received her education at St. John's Lutheran school and was confirmed on March 18, 1894 by the Reverend J Horn.

On May 20, 1899 she was united in marriage to Bruene Hattermann The Lord blessed this union with two sons. Her life was saddened when the Lord called her first husband home on July 30, 1906.

In 1907 she was united in marriage to Fred Briggie. God blessed this union with three sons. Once again God visited her and called her second husband home on December 30, 1943.

In 1921 she moved from the farm southwest of Paullina to the house in Paullina where she has lived since, except for her recent stay at the Paullina Wide View Nursing Home On the sixth of September of this year she fell and broke her hip and was taken to the St. Joseph's hospital of Sioux City where she was called to her eternal rest on September 19 at the age of 89 years and two days.

She leaves to mourn her passing her beloved children, Bruene and Ray Hattermann of Paullina, Almond Briggie of Willmar. Minn., and Francis Briggie of Paullina; her two sisters, Mrs. Frieda Plotter of Manawa, Wisc, and Mrs. Ernest Voss of Paullina; 17 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, her son Irvin, two sisters, and one brother, Norman.

Funeral services for Mrs Emma Briggie of Paullina were held Monday, September 22 at the Zion Lutheran church of Paullina. Mrs. Briggie passed away September 19 at a Sioux City hospital. Rev Melvin Thur officiated at the services. Pallbearers were Lyle Briggie. Alvin Hatterman. Vernelle Riedeman. Robert Briggie. Edward Hatterman and Lance Shafer Honorary pallbearers were Howard Briggie, Thomas Riedeman Lloyd Briggie and Kevin Shafer Mrs Marvin Fintel sang "Be Still My Soul" and "The Lord's Prayer" and the congregation joined in singing "I'm But A Stranger Here' Organist was Mrs. James Meyer Burial was in Prairie View cemetery under the direction of the Gaudian Funeral Home.
