ELSIE IRENE KUYPER 1918 — 2010

Elsie Irene (Mars) Kuyper was born on November 3, 1918, to Mindred and Jessie (Kroese) Mars. Her father died when Elsie was an infant. She and her mother lived with her mother's parents and family during Elsie's childhood, when Elsie attended country school. Elsie's mother later remarried to Abe Hoffman.

Elsie was married to Kenneth Hubert Kuyper on November 21, 1945, and gave birth to two children, Kenneth Harold and Joyce Irene. She worked as a dental assistant and bookkeeper for Dr. Shanahan before becoming a full-time homemaker after her children were born. She lived her entire life in Sanborn where she attended First Reformed Church and was an active member of the RCW Women's Guild and Circles. She loved having coffee with friends and enjoyed many years of card club with other church members and family friends. She was well known for cooking and baking, and her family cherishes many of her personal recipes. Her children and grandchildren will always remember her pies and cookies. She died November 6, 2010, at Prairie View Home at the age of 92 years, three days.

She is survived by her children, Vern and Joyce (Kuyper) Wallinga of Sanborn and Kenneth and Marylin Kuyper of Dakota City, IA. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Mike and Meagan Wallinga and their children, Abigal and Allison; Mike and Ethanie Pulscher and their children, Ellea and Alec; Kent and Melissa Wallinga, Jessica Kuyper, Kessandra Kuyper, and Kenneth Harlan Kuyper. She is also survived by other close relatives and many family friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and many dear uncles, aunts, cousins and two nephews.

Funeral services were held November 9 at First Reformed Church in Sanborn with Rev. Gary Hegstad officiating. Casket bearers were Mike Wallinga, Kent Wallinga, Mike Pulscher, Kenny Kuyper, Norm Scholten and Peter Kroese. Honorary bearers were Art Bosch, Don Kroese, Ted Marra, Conrad Prins, Ivan Van Veldhuizen, Ed Donkersloot, Robert G. Scholten, Edwin Brouwer and Arie Postma. Harriet and Jeane Van Veldhuizen sang "Where the Roses Never Fade," and "Does Jesus Care." Congregational hymns were "Savior Like a Shepherd," and "Nearer my God to Thee. * Arlene Dykstra was organist and Jud y Dykstra was a pianist. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, with the Sanborn Funeral Home in charge.
