Martha (Linder) Meehlhause (1887-1962)

Martha Linder Meehlhause was born February 15, 1887 at Garrison, Iowa in Benton County, to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Linder. At the age of one year, she with her parents moved to O'Brien County where she lived the rest of her life.

She was baptized in infancy in the Zion Evangelical Church, later became a member of the Moneta Methodist Church. After they moved to Hartley, she had her membership transferred to the Hartley Methodist Church.

On September 27th 1905, she was married to Charlie Meehlhause at Hartley, Iowa. They lived on a farm all of their married life until in February 1951 when they moved to Hartley to make their home. To this union was born one son, Elmer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie, on September 21, 1951, after a lingering illness. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one just an infant, and Albert, and one sister, Pearl Lyman.

Mrs. Meehlhause passed away June 20, 1962 at the Hartley Community Hospital, following a stroke at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 5,days.

She is surviyed by her son, Elmer and his wife, Dorothy and one grandson, Gary, Spencer, Iowa. Also three brothers, Fred Linder of Spencer, Chris and Martin Linder of Omaha, Nebraska and one sister, Mrs. Maggie Rodgers of Harve de Grace, Maryland, nephews and nieces, along with many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 22, 1962 at the Metho dist Church at Hartley, at 2 p.m. with Rev. D. D. Samuelson officiating. Miss Florence Fahlenkamp sang "Rock of Ages" and "The Old Rugged Cross", accompanied by Mrs. Walter Kelley. Pallbearers were Forrest Newcomer, Amos Lloyd, Edward Wittrock, Wilbert Fredericks, Merrit Linder and George Lettengarver. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley, Iowa, under the direction of the Warner Funeral Home, Inc., Spencer, Iowa.
