OBITUARY BERNICE SCHERZER

Bernice Christina Scherzer, nee Meehlhause, was the third daughter born to Adam and Nettie Schadt Meehlhause, on Oct. 30, 1905 at Hartley, Iowa. She was educated in area schools near her childhood home.

She was united in marriage at Spencer, Iowa to Fred Scherzer on July 25, 1926 by Reverend Thompson. The couple lived near Hartley and to this union were born three daughters.

She was especially fond of all kinds of handwork, sewing, quilting and so forth.

She passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital on March 29, 1973 after a short illness at the age of 67.

Preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters and one grandson.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Fred; three daughters, Mrs. Vera Munger and Mrs. Gerald Fletcher (Ruth) both of Omaha, Nebr., and Mrs. Kenneth (Lorraine) Welch of St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were conducted on Saturday, March 31, at the United Methodist Church in -Hartley with Rev. Bernard Sayler officiating. Casket bearers were James Hesse, Martin Rachuy, Howard Guenther, Edward Peters, Arnold Gruhn and Glen Peters. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley with The Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
