Lester Westphal

Funeral services were held May 9, 2001 for Lester Carl "Bud" Westphal, 78, who died May 5, 2001, in Davis County Hospital, Bloomfield. He was born June 14, 1922, in Paullina to Carl E.P. and Ella Dora Strahmann Westphal.

He married Evelyn Edith Hartwig October 13, 1954, in Sioux Falls, SD. She died September 4, 1990. A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was self-employed in Rapid City, SD, farming and working in construction before retiring and moving to Milton in 1985.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Memphis, MO, Russell-Strait Post 483 American Legion of Milton and a lifetime member of VFW.

Surviving are two daughters, Carmen Pease of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Shelley Hoff of Cannon Lake, TX; two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a sister, Viola Hoppe of Primghar.

He was preceded in death by twin sisters and two brothers.

Services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Henkenius-Priester Funeral Home, Bloomfield, with Rev. Paul Meseke officiating. Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Russell-Strait Post 483 American Legion of Milton. Pallbearers were Charles King, Charles Boyd, Carlton Ebert, Philip Herteen, Phillip Melvin and Bill Winn.
