CARL DOESCHER

Carl Doescher, the son of Jacob and Christina Doescher, was born October 5, 1880, at Crete, Illinois. He passed away at this home in Sutherland, Iowa, on August 5, 1949, at the age of 68 years and 10 months.

He spent his childhood in Illinois and as a young man lived near Paullina, Iowa. His parents died while he was an infant and he was raised in an orphanage in Addison, Illinois. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was married on July 19, 1909, in Chicago, 111., to Emma Rohles. To them were born four children, two of whom died in infancy.

In 1932 he went to Hartley, Iowa to live with a niece, Mabel Gerrard. They moved to Sutherland in 1934 which had been his home since that time.

He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran church of Sutherland. Mr. Doescher was a mason by occupation and had worked at that trade for 40 years. A year ago he had to cease working, due to ill health. He had been failing since that time and recently underwent an operation at Iowa City.

He is survived by his niece, Mabel Gerrard of Sutherland, his grandnephew Russell, now of the U. S. Navy, and his grandniece Kathryn, also of Sutherland; a son George of Fox River, Ill., a daughter Lillian (Mrs. Cliff Hawkensen) of Elmhurst, Ill., four grandchildren; a brother, August Doescher, and two sistersin-law, Mrs. August Doescher, and Mrs. Anna Doescher, besides other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Bethel Lutheran church for Carl Doescher, 68, who passed away at his home Friday afternoon, following failing health for some time. His condition did not become critical until recently. He had gone to the University hospital at Iowa Qity for an operation and was brought home only a little more than a week prior to his death.

Rev. E. E. Greene had charge of the services, directed by the Baumgarten Funeral Home.
