Myrtle Steinbeck

Services in memory of Myrtle Steinbeck were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 30, 1989, at Trinity United Church of Christ, Hartley. Rev. Stokes Snyder officiated. Casket bearers were John Steinbeck, David Steinbeck, Gary Steinbeck, Steve Steinbeck. Ronald Kruse and Dennis Steinbeck. Committal service was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Hartley.

Myrtle Edna Steinbeck, the daughter of George and Martha Ross Robson Williams, was born March 13, 1896, at Quimby. She attended grade school near her home.

She was united in marriage to John Steinbeck on January 20, 1915, at the Methodist parsonage at Hartley. They farmed near the Sutherland and Hartley communities. John passed away in 1965.

Myrtle was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, the Dorcas Society of Trinity, and the Busy-Bee Club. She resided in the Mann Wing nursing home the past year.

Myrtle's interests centered around her family; she kept busy with sewing, tatting and crocheting.

She passed away at Hartley, Iowa, on January 26, 1989, at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 13 days.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, an infant daughter, Enga [sic Inga]; two sons, Leland and Donald; a grandson, Monte Struve; one great grandchild; four sisters, four brothers, and a daughter-in-law, Reva Steinbeck.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters and their husbands. Evelyn and Vernon Kruse of Larrabee, Elaine and Gordon Struve of Rossie: and three sons, Garland and his wife. Anne, of Hartley; Wayne of Sutherland, and Keith and his wife, Donna, of Hartley; 26 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren; and one sister, Viola Randsdell, of Vallejo. California; along with other relatives and friends.
