Martie Westphal services held March 21

Martie C. Westphal. the son of Fred and Minnie Schultz Westphalen, was born June 7. 1900 at Belmont, Wisconsin. He attended rural schools in Wisconsin and Osceola County. Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Laura Steinbeck on January 28, 1925 at Hartley. Iowa. Martie farmed for 40 years before retiring in 1965. He had lived in the Hartley area for 80 years. He was a member and was confirmed in the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. He was a member and enjoyed the Busy Bee Club for many years. He especially enjoyed his birthdays and anniversaries with family and friends. Martie and Laura celebrated their Silver and Golden Anniversaries, and as of January 28. 1988, were happy to be together 63 years.

He passed away at Hartley, Iowa on March 17, 1988 at the age of 87.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Wilbur, Delbert and Ervin and two sisters, Mabel and Elsie.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife. Laura, three brothers, John Westphalen of Spencer, Iowa. Roy Westphalen of Royal, Iowa, and Raymond Westphalen of San Leandro. California: and four sisters. Lulu Schoelerman of Royal, Iowa. Berniece (Mrs. William) Madson of Spencer, Iowa. Velma (Mrs. Russell) Rohwer of Maple Grove. Minnesota, and Dorothy (Mrs. Gerald) Johannsen of Sutherland, Iowa: and other relatives and friends.

Services in memory of Martie Westphal were held 2:00 p.m. Monday. March 21. 1988 at Trinity United Church of Christ. Hartley. Iowa, with Rev. Jean Rosewall officiating. Casket bearers were Keith Steinbeck. John Steinbeck, Steve Steinbeck. Wayne Westphalen. Shelley Westphalen and Jerald Westphalen. Committal service was in Pleasant View Cemetery. Hartley, Iowa.
