Herman Johannsen, 66, a former resident of this community, passed away Thursday morning at the State Hospital at Cherokee where he had been a patient for the past 24 years. He came to O'Brien County as a child, attended the public schools of Sutherland, and lived in this vicinity until the time of his hospitalization.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock at the Baumgarten Funeral Home. , Rev. W.L. Rowse was in charge of the services. Interment was in Waterman Cemetery.

1883-HERMAN JOHANNSEN-1949

Herman Johannsen, son of William and Margaret Brumm Johannsen, was born on April 20, 1883 in Tama County, Iowa. He passed away in Cherokee County, Iowa, on July 19, 1949 at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 29 days.

He came to O'Brien County, Iowa as a small child, and spent his life in this community, until the time of his hospitilization 24 years ago. He attended the public schools of Sutherland, and was baptized in the German Evangelical Church.

On January 16, 1913, he was married to Grace Cooper. To them were born 5 children. The family lived on a farm in this vicinity.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Julius, and two sisters, Rose (Mrs. Byron Lampman), and Hilda (Mrs. Harry Johann).
