Harlan E. Tewes, the son of Ernest and Nellie (Baumeister) Tewes, was born near Everly, Iowa on July 6, 1916. He lived his youth and received his education near Hartley, Iowa.

He was united in marriage to Evelyn Hansen of Melvin, on September 9, 1941, at South Sioux City, Nebraska. Harlan was engaged in farming in the Dickinson County area for four years before moving three miles north of Hartley where he farmed until moving into Hartley in December of 1981.

He entered Primghar Care Center at Primghar in January, 1986, and he died there on December 5, 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Hartley; his son and daughter-inlaw, Larry and Linda Tewes of Greenville; his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Lenard Hess of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren, one greatgrandchild; seven brothers: Marvin, Lester and Eldon, all of Hartley, Delmar of Royal, Orville of Paullina, Roger of Larrabee and Arlo of Primghar; four sisters: Mrs. Arlene Harders, Mrs. Marjorie Petersen, Mrs. Darrell (Mildred) Hennings and Mrs. Harold (Marlene) Wills, all of Hartley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hartley. He received much enjoyment from his farming occupation and working with machinery

Services in memory of Harlan Tewes were conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 1994 at the United Methodist Church in Hartley. Dr. Carl Klein officiated. Casket bearers were Donald Denny, Terry Roghair, Ed Harders, Darrell Bethke, Jr., Rodney Bocrnsen and Bruce Tewes. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Sanborn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
