Gladys Lava Rusch was born to George and Maggie (Braillier) Schlarbaum in O'Brien County, Iowa on December 31, 1892. She attended school in rural O'Brien County, graduating in 1911.

She was united in marriage to Arthur J. Rusch at Spencer, Iowa and to this union three children were born; two sons and one daughter, LaVerna, Wilbert and Orville.

Gladys spent her entire life in O'Brien and Dickinson Counties as a housewife. She enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers and had always helped walk beans until this summer. She was a member of the United Methodist Church at Hartley and was baptized and confirmed in 1948.

She passed away September 12, 1982 at the Longhouse Residence at Spencer, after a 3 months illness of cancer.
