George Van Alstine Dies At Spencer, Burial To Be Here

Funeral services for George Van Alstine, 68, of Spencer, will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 1:30 from the Cobb-Warner Funeral Home at Spencer, followed by burial in the Waterman cemetery at Sutherland. Time for graveside rites here will be approximately 3 o'clock.

Mr. Van Alstine lived in O'Brien county for many years, coming here when three years old, from Manchester, Iowa, where he was born. He worked on the farm for Leigh Drake for about 15 years, and also was driver for the hearse while here, when horses were the power of motivation. He left the Sutherland community about 1930 and for the past few years has resided at Spencer, where he was employed by the city.

Mr. Van Alstine suffered a heart attack Monday morning and passed away in the afternoon. He had to to be evacuated from his home, when the flood waters threatened it. He has no immediate survivors, but is a relative of the Cooper and Ginger families.
