Catherine Ehlers Thiessen was born in Germany, on February 20th, 1842. She died in Sutherland, Iowa, on Saturday afternoon. October 2nd, 1926. having attained the great age of 84 years, 7 months and 12 days.
She was christened and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in her youth and remained faithful to her church to the end.
She was united in marriage to Jurgen Thiessen in 1865. They came to America and settled at Davenport, la., in 1871. In the year 1883 they removed to O'Brien county where she has made her home ever since.
She was preceded in death by her husband, twenty-three years ago. Their union was blessed with five children: John, of Sutherland: Henry, of Oregon; George, of North Dakota; Mrs. Tracy Mier of Madison, S. Dak; Mrs. Lena Beck, a daughter, preceded her mother in death thirteen years ago. Mrs. Thiessen is mourned also by 10 grandchildren and 9 great grand children and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. Thos. Batlio, officiating, on Monday afternoon at 2:00 p. m Interment at Waterman cemetery.
