HENRY H. FRIEDRICHSEN

In the prime of his life, at the age of 48 years, one month and 14 days, Henry H. Fredrichsen was unexpectedly called from the circle of his loved ones on Thursday morning, June 24th, at two o'clock He had worked in the field during the intensely hot day preceding and came home ill in the afternoon. A physician was summoned who did all in his power to restore the sufferer but nothing could stay the hand of death and Mr. Friedrichsen sank rapidly and passed away a day later, surrounded by his loved ones.

Mr Friedrichsen was born on the 10th day of May, 1889, in Schleswig-Holstein in Germany and was baptized in his native land. A year later his parents, William and Emma, nee Manson, came with their family to America and found a new home in Tama County, in Iowa, where he attended the rural schools and assisted his father on the farm.

In 1905 the family moved to Cherokee County, and on November 18, 1914, he was united in marriage with Miss Emma Steinbeck at Calumet, Iowa, with whom he lived happily for nearly 23 years. Of the four children born to their union two little sons died in infancy while two daughters with their mother mourn the early passing of their dear father and husband.

After his marriage Mr Friedrichsen farmed near Everly, Sutherland and north of Hartley A stomach ailment with which he had been afflicted since boyhood forced him to retire from active farming about three years ago, since which time they have lived in Hartley, where they acquired a home in the west part of town.

He was an affectionate husband and father who did all in his power to provide for the welfare and happiness of his family, and a good citizen and neighbor.

Thrice within the last fifteen months the angel of death has visited the family. Little more than a year ago his sister, Caroline, Mrs. Julius Heuer, was killed by a tornado which struck in this neighborhood, and several months later his father died at Arnolds Park, Iowa. Another sister and a brother also preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, Mrs. Emma Friedrichsen; two daughters, Thelma, Mrs. Merrit Belz, of Hartley, Iowa, and Arlene, aged at home; one grandson, Dale, his son-in-law, Merrit Belz; his aged mother, Mrs. Emma Friedrichsen, of Larrabee, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Geo. Stewart, also of Larrabee; his three brothers, William and Herman, of Larrabee, and John, of Paullina, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Geo. Stewart, of Larrabee, and Julius Heuer, of Primghar, Iowa, three sisters-in-law, Mrs. William and Mrs. John Friedrichsen, and Mrs. Herman Friedrichsen and a large number of more distant relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at two o'clock at the Trinity Evangelical Reformed church, Rev F W Budy officiating. The Trinity Mixed Quartette sang several selections. Interment was in Pleasant View cemetery.
