Winifred Jenkins, the daughter of Spencer and Lottie Rutledge Smith, was born Sept. 4, 1871, at Van Horne, Iowa, in Benton county. She passed into eternal rest on January 7, 1962 at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 2 days, in Hartley, Iowa, at the home of her daughter, where she had made her home for 4 1/2 years.

She attended rural school at Van Home, Iowa. She was married to J. L. Jenkins on January 28, 1892 at Van Horne. To this union two children were born: Arthur of Long Beach, California, and Willa Wagner of Hartley, Iowa.

She was baptized by immersion on Dec. 26, 1894 at Van Horne.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 24, 1945, and her parents, one sister and one brother [Arthur Smith]. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, one daughter, one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, eleven grandchildren, thirty-eight great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren.

She was a kind and loving mother to all who knew her. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 9, from the Hartley Methodist church, Rev. D. D. Samuelson officiating.
