ANNA WILHELMINA NIELSEN

Anna Wilhelmina Westphal was born June 23, 1903 near Pauliina, Iowa, to William and Lena Westphal. She was one of nine ohildren. Her parents raised their family in Dale Twp., and it was there that she attended country school. When she had finished her schooling she remained at home on the farm where she helped the family.

On December 12, 1922 she was united in marriage with William Nielsen. The newly married couple started farming in Caledonia Twp., where they lived until 1930. At that time they moved to the place in Dale Twp., where the family now resides.

Besides her husband, William, she is survived by three children: Loren, at home, age 14, Shirley Ann, age 12, and William, Junior, age 5. She leaves also the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Lena Struve, Sutherland; Mrs. Emma Luhrs, Paullina; Edward and William, Paullina; John of Waterloo, and Gus of Archer.

Her parents and two brothers preceded her in death. She received Christian baptism in infancy at the request of her parents.

Death came to her suddenly on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. S, 1940, at her home where she appeared to be recovering from an illness of about five weeks. It was all the more unexpected, because of the marked improvement she had shown upon her return from the hospital.

She was very fond of her home, where she tried to provide every comfort for her family, and where she showed a welcome to all those who came to visit her. Aside from the care of her home, her chief interests were in her flowers and her fancy work to which she gave much attention.

Having been born to this community, and having spent all her life here, she was widely known; and the great host of her friends join with the family in their bereavement.
