Funeral Services for William Nielsen
Are Held Here August 7

Funeral services were held here Tuesday. August 7 for William Nielsen, a former Paullina resident, who died August 1, at his home in Los Angeles, Calif. Services were held at 1:30 at the Dan Struve home and at 2:00 at the Presbyterian church. The Rev L. R. Middents officiated Mrs. Harold DeJong and Mrs. Matt Shankland sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden", accompanied by Mrs. Robert Livingston at the organ. Pallbearers were Carl Hibbing, W R. Ewoldt, John Lange, Archie Dance, Sam Mericle and Al­bert Strampe. Honorary pallbearers were Maurice Mericle, Chester Idso, Lester Krager, J C. Ebel, William Wilson and John Jacobs.

William P Nielsen was born Jan. 28, 1898 near Marcus, Ia., to Peter and Mary Nielsen. One of ten children, he grew up in the vicinity of Paullina.

On Dec. 12, 1922 he was married to Anna Westphal. They then moved to a farm in Caledonia township. To them were born three children, Loren, Shirley, and Billy.

On Nov 5, 1940, Mrs. Nielsen preceded him in death.

Later he married Lillie Riedemann. In 1945 they moved from a farm in Dale township to Paullina where they lived until September, 1948. During this time he drove a school bus for Paullina Public school.

In September of 1948, they moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where they were living at the time of his death. He had been in poor health for over ten years.

Death came to him on the evening of Aug.l, 1951 at the age of 53 years.

Surviving him are his widow, Lillie, seven children: Loren, Elmhurst, Ill; Shirley (Mrs. Vernelle Jurgensen), Paullina; Billy, Donna Faye, Patty, Nancy and Keith, all of Los Angeles, Calif; a step-daughter, Betty of Los Angeles, and his two grandchildren, Vance and Dana Jean, His mother, Mary Nielsen of Los Angeles also survives him. He leaves the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Carl Howe, Paul­lina; Nels, Sutherland; Mrs. Elmer Jacobson, Larrabee; Mrs, Dan Struve, Paullina; Pete, Glendale, Calif; Mrs. August Wildshutz, Los Angeles; Mrs. Mabel Jehue, Los Angeles; Harry, Los Angeles; and Leslie, Rivera, Calif.
