Henry Wagner

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 27 at 2 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran church in Sheldon for Henry Wagner, Sheldon. Rev. Arnold H. Johr officiated. Mrs. Abe Van Roekel was organis. Pallbearers were Waldo Winter, Edgar Winter, Westbrook, Minn., Wilson Winter, Jasper, Minn., Arthur Rosenboom, George; William Rosenboom, Boyden; and John Rosenboom, Primghar. Interment in Roseland cemetery at Sanborn.

Henry Ernst Wagner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wagner, was born on December 15, 1875 in Grmany. He was baptized as an infant in the Lutheran Church at the place of his birth.

In 1877 he came to America with his widowed mother, residing at Foreston, Ill. At the age of 14, he came to Sioux County, taking up residence near Boyden.

On December 12, 1900, he was joined in marriage to Bertha Meyners, and soon thereafter joined St. John Lutheran church north of Boyden, to which his wife belonged. To this union were born two sons and one daughter, one of the sons dying as an infant.

Mr. and Mrs. Wagner lived on a farm near Boyden for a period of six years. Then they moved to a farm southeast of Sheldon, residing thee for three years, and from to a farm near Sanborn where they lived for 21 years. In 1931, Mr. and Mrs. Wagner moved to their home on seventh street in Sheldon. At about that time they became members of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Sheldon.

Mr. Wagner was in failing health during the last number of years, spending the last two years in a nursing home. On Mary 4 he was brought to Community Memorial Hospital in Sheldon and on Tuesday May 23, was called to his eternal home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, and an infant son.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter Viola (Mrs. Francis Moore) of Sanborn; three grandchildren, four great granchildren, one step-brother Andrew Rosenboom of Boyden, and one step sister, Henrietta (Mrs. Wm. Bothof) of Sheldon.
