Esther Wagner

Esther M. (Bobzien) Wagner, the daughter of John and Emma (Kruse) Bobzien. was born near Hartley. Iowa, on August 10, 1910. She attended rural school in Lincoln Township and graduated from Hartley High School in 1927 with a Normal Teachers Certificate. She was baptized on September 25, 1910. at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church at Hartley, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith there on May 31. 1925.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence H. Wagner on March 1, 1931, at the St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hartley. Following their marriage they moved to rural Sanborn where she lived for the next 58 years.

She entered Prairie View Home at Sanborn in July 1989. and died there on August 5, 1992. at the age if 81 years, 11 months and 25 days.

Survivors include her daughter, LuAnn Simmons of Sioux City: four grandchildren: Lee Pingel of Salem, Massachusetts, LeDen Pingel and wife Sandra of rural Cleghorn. LaNee Simmons of Sioux City, and LoraJe (Simmons) and husband. Jeffrey W. Johnson of Sioux City: one sister, Neva Decker of Sanborn: four great-grand­children: Rebecca and Daniel Pingel. Stephen Michael Pingel and Alexandria Johnson; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Francis (Viola) Moore of Sanborn, and Mrs. Mabyl Bobzien of Hartley: many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband. Lawrence; two daughters: Gleva and Clareen; her parents: and two brothers, Glenn and Clarence. Esther was active in St. John's Lutheran Church at Sanborn, and also in the O'Brien County Farm Bureau and Prairie View Auxiliary. She had served as a 4-H leader.

Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church at Sanborn on Saturday. August 8, 1992, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Kenneth Funke officiating. Pallbearers were Glenn Strubbe. Bob Damman, Rene Rozema. Glenn Damman. Arlin Mohlenkamp and Delbert Medick. Interment was in Roseland Cemetery at Sanborn, under the direction of Sanborn Funeral Home.
