LEROY E. HANSEN (1933-2017)

Leroy Emil Hansen, the son of Emil and Hilda (Kersten) Hansen was born on September 12, 1933 on the family farm near Sheldon with his twin brother, Lorin. He received his education from Sheldon Schools, graduating from Sheldon High School in 1952. He was united in marriage to Geraldine (Geri) Schultz on April 8, 1960 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon.

Leroy worked for Lensink Flooring and later purchased the business in 1977 and ran Floors & More until his retirement in 1997. Leroy was a lifetime resident of Sheldon until he and Geri moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa the summer of 2015. Leroy entered Rock Rapids Health Centre in October of 2016, where he passed on February 3, 2017 reaching the age of 83 years, 4 months and 21 days.

Leroy was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon, where he was an active member throughout the years. He was a past member of SCAT. He enjoyed helping others and his neighbors; mowing their yards and cleaning. He also enjoyed sitting on his porch visiting the birds and squirrels, spending time with his family and playing with the neighbor kids. Leroy loved to joke and laugh with others.

Left to cherish Leroy’s memory is his wife of 56 years, Geraldine of Rock Rapids; one son, Steven Hansen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two daughters and their husbands, Shari and Marvin DeBoer of Little Rock, Iowa and Shana and David Beermann of Brandon, South Dakota; grandchildren, Roger, Eric and Marni DeBoer and Zack Beermann; sister-in-law, Jane Hansen; brother-in-law, Mark (Cindy) Schultz; his special families, Lorn (Joan) Wills, Werner (Sulmi) Lapoyeu and their children, Gus, Matthew and Eli and Scotty DeJong; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and nephew, Lester (Arleen), Robert (Geddy), twin brother, Lorin Hansen (nephew, Glenn), sister, Edna (Rex) Cox; along with in-laws, Kermit (Almo) Schultz, brother-in-law, Michael Schultz and sister-in-law, Marlene (Elmer) Johannsen.
