Graveside services Thursday for Darlene J. Tharp
Darlene Jane Tharp, 68, of Lake Lillian, Minnesota, formerly of Sutherland, died Sunday, January 14, 2001 at Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson, Minn. Services will be 10-00 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Cosmos, Minn. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland.
Darlene Tharp was born September 5, 1932 in Sutherland, the daughter of Clair and Amy (Nelson) Bryant. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. She attended school in Sutherland and graduated from Litchfield High School. She attended St. Cloud Teachers College, then taught country school near Cosmos for one year. She returned to Iowa in 1953.
She married Robert L. Tharp in July 1954 in Sutherland. The couple moved to Minnesota in 1959, where they farmed near New London. They moved to Lake Lillian in 1973. She was employed with Green Lake State Bank in Spicer, Minn. She was a member of Cosmos United Methodist Church and served as a 4-H leader. She enjoyed sewing.
Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Kim and Colleen of Hastings, Minn., two daughters and their husbands, Amy and Duane Fowler of Hastings, and Lisa and Chet Borger of Buffalo, Minn, six grandchildren, David and Megan Fowler, Jason and Lon Tharp, and Dylan and Andrew Borger; a brother, Lee Bryant of Willmar, Minn.; a sister and her husband, Beverly and Ken Orthmann of Sutherland; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant son.
