Services held for Robert L. Tharp

Robert L Tharp, 71, of Lake Lillian, Minnesota, formerly of Sutherland, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson, Minn. Services were held Friday, May 25 at the United Methodist Church in Cosmos, Minn. Graveside services were Saturday, May 26 in Waterman Cemetery, Sutherland.

Mr Tharp was born August 23, 1929 in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Wayne and Ruth (Wingier) Tharp He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith He graduated from school in Sutherland. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, stationed in Korea.

He married Darlene Bryant in 1954, in Sutherland. The couple started farming and in 1959 moved to New London, Minn, where they continued to farm He began employment with the Postal Service in 1968 and was appointed Postmaster in Lake Lillian in 1973. He retired from the Postal Service in 1989. They spent their winters in Arizona. He served on the Cosmos School board and was a member of the American Legion. He was a craftsman.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands. Amy and Duane Fowler of Hastings, Minn., and Lisa and Chet Borger of Buffalo, Minn; a son and his wife, Kim and Colleen of Hastings; six grandchildren, David and Megan Fowler, Jason and Lon Tharp and Dylan and Andrew Bor­ger; a brother and his wife. Elvin and Lois of Edmonds, Wash , three sisters, Dorothy Hill of Cherokee, Evelyn and her husband. Bob Reiste of Ocheyedan, Iowa, and Inez and her husband, Oscar Adams of Sutherland; and several nieces and nephews.
