Services for Gertrude West
Services for Gertrude West were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 9, 1984, at the First Presbyterian Church at Paullina, Iowa, with the Rev. Gregory Bock officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were: Alice Laue, Edna Simm, Frieda Dance, Uneva Henderson, Sybil Test and Maurine Tjossem. Pallbearers were: Allen Bell, Rodney Bell, James West, Charles Bell, Paul West and Scott Garrett. "O God Our Help in Ages Past" and "O Love that Will Not Let Me Go" were sung by the congregation with Mrs. Marilyn Ewoldt at the organ. The final resting place is at Prairie View Cemetery, Paullina, Iowa. The arrangements were under the care of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.
OBITUARY
Gertrude West, the daughter of William and Anna Roseland Test, was born October 13, 1902, at La Grande, Iowa. She attended schools at West Branch and at the Scattergood Boarding School. She then attended Cedar Rapids Business College, graduating in 1922, and later William Penn College, graduating in 1924. She then taught school in Oskaloosa and Spencer.
On June 6, 1929,she was united in marriage to Glenn West in Paullina. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Paullina area, and at this time, Gertrude taught school in the Archer, Paullina and Sutherland Schools.
Glenn preceded her in death on October 19, 1962, in Paullina. At this time, Gertrude moved into Paullina. She continued to make her home in Paullina until passing away on Friday, July 6, 1984, reaching the age of 81 years, 8 months and 23 days.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Paullina and was a member of the Eastern Star.
Gertrude is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John (Sally) Bell of Ruthven and one son, Dennis of Mission, Kansas; also 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; also a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Reid, 4 sisters and three brothers.
