Bethany Engelkes (1992-2003)

Bethany Ann Engelkes, the daughter of Jim Engelkes and Candy Ruschmann, was born November 19, 1992, in Primghar, Iowa.

She attended HMS School to the 5th grade until 2002 at which time she was home schooled under the supervision of Amy Arrick.

Bethany was a beautiful child who fought her illness with hope, love and with her family and stuffed animals by her side. She was admired for the way she battled her illness over the past several years and never giving up on her will to live.

On Saturday, December 13, 2003, Bethany lost her battle with her illness at the age of 11. With her family and stuffed animals at her bedside.

She was preceded in death by her step-grandmother, Cindy Ruschmann; her maternal great-grandparents: Norman and Nellie Meyer and Karl and Freida Ruschmann and her paternal great-grandparents Hank and Irene Engelkes.

Left to cherish her memory are her parents: Jim Engelkes and Candy Ruschmann of Hartley, Iowa; her sisters: Angel and Cassie Engelkes, both at home; her grandparents: Vernon Ruschmann of Primghar, Iowa; Becky Clark of Germantown, Iowa; and Lillian and William Engelkes of Hartley, Iowa; her great-grandparents, Ione Osterson of Spencer, Iowa; and numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
