CHARLEY HODAPP'S DEATH

TODAY the sad news comes of the fatal shooting of Charley Hodapp. Charley has been making his home with his brother, Mike Hodapp, south of town, for some time. This morning Charley was found bleeding and unconscious, his forehead having been pierced by a rifle ball. At 9:30 o'clock this evening he passed away. No. one knows whether Charley took his own life or whether he was accidently shot while handling the rifle which cost him his life, but the indications are that it was not accidental. The coroner has been called and will arrive tomorrow.

The blow is indeed a sad one to the relatives and friends. Of friends he had many, too, and was well liked, by all who knew him. The funeral will take place at Granville on Saturday forenoon at 10 o'clock and the start will be made from the house at 7 o'clock in the morning.

OBITUARY. Charles Anton Hodapp was born at Kappelrodeck, Germany, January 22, 1871; died March 21, 1904. Deceased came from Germany to America in 1890, locating in Cherokee county. After six years residence near Aurelia he came to O'Brien county and made his home in various parts of the county until his death.

THE TIMES readers are familiar with the facts of his death last Thursday. So far the public is left to judge whether it was accidental or intentional. The coroner's verdict has not been given to the public, and we are unable to give the verdict at this time.

A brief service was held at the home of his brother, Mike, south of town, at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon and tho remains were laid to rest at Prairie View cemetery.

Note: Deceased's brother Mike (and more than twenty other Hodapp's) are buried at St. Joe's in Granville. It is probable that the Church denied burial on consecrated ground due to the nature of his death. Chaley is buried at Prairie View in Paullina, and I have personally confirmed this with a visit and a photograph of his memorial stone. -ja
