VANDER WOUDE, Calvin R.
May 23, 1938 - September 7, 2015

Born in Spencer Iowa, son of Willis and Helen (Adams) Vander Woude, survived by brothers, Willis Vander Woude of Corning, CA, and Merle (Gayle) Vander Woude of Sanborn, Iowa.

After receiving his under graduate degree in Iowa, Cal ventured to England to study at Oxford University. Cal met his lifelong partner, interior designer, Harold Broderick, in Palm Springs where Cal opened Gallery Vander Woude, becoming an art consultant and curator. Cal was an active board member of the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center in Rancho Mirage and the Palm Springs Art Museum. Cal and Hal retired in 1995, moving to Sonoma where they immediately immersed themselves in community art and social benefits. He was a board member of the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, contributing greatly to their children's education programs.

Besides his deep interest in art, he was an accomplished pianist and gourmet cook, hosting home gatherings with family and friends where he amused all with his keen wit and insightful commentary.

Cal attended St. Leo's Church in Sonoma, where a memorial morning mass will be held on October 5 at 8:30 a.m.
