SERVICES HELD for BOB SAMPSON

Funeral services in memory of Bob Sampson were held at the Hartley United Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon, January 17. Rev. Lester Hancock and Rev. Bernard Sayter officiated and burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley. The Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Baine Sampson, the son of Robert and Katie Frost Sampson, was born August 31, 1899 at Dunbar, Nebraska. He grew up and attended school in Oklahoma; Adair, Liberty and Scotland Counties in Missouri and at Pella, Iowa. He came to Hartley, Iowa to farm as a young man.

He was united in marriage to Mildred Hirt on February 25, 1926 at Hartley, Iowa. They farmed near Hartley, retiring and moving into town in 1968.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Men's Club at Hartley, a fifty year member of Modern Woodmen, and enjoyed many outdoor activities, including baseball, waterskiing and swimming, hunting and all sports.

He passed away at the hospital in Hartley on January 14, 1979 at the age of 79.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, Clara and Bonnie; one brother Charley, twin brothers in infancy, and two grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mildred; three sons, Milton of Sutherland, Kenneth and Byron of Primghar; three daughters, Mrs. Merlon (Marilyn) Tesch and Mrs. Emory (Elsin) Petersen, both of Hartley, and Mrs. John (Shirley) Ney of Primghar; eighteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Levit of Rinebeck, N.Y.; Dan of Wakonda, S.D., and George of Clovis, California; and one sister, Mrs. Pat (Willma) Patterson of Branson, Missouri, as well as other relatives and many friends.

The casket bearers were Galen Sampson, Robert Tesch, Craig Sampson, Russell Petersen, Kelly Ney and Brad Miller. The honorary casket attendants were Mark Sampson, Carl Petersen, Kirk Ney and Thomas Petersen.

They ware Mrs. Jerry Dawson, Estherville; June Sampson, Cedar Falls; Jan Sampson, Orange City; Russell Petersen, Minneapolis, Minn.; Cindy Tesch, Sioux City; Robert Tesch, Ames; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Earley, Cameron, Mo.; Julie Peters, Fremont, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Shever, Correctionville; Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Doherty, John Van Gammeren, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Doherty and Mr. Paul Brown, all of In wood; Mr. Jack Vande Weerd, Rock Valley: Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Steffens, Cleghorn; Clarence Steffens, Paullina; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hicks and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. White, Arnolds Park; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Riley, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Mielke, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mielke, all of Worthington, Minn.; Mrs. Ellen Pierce, Emmetsburg; George Kuik, Orange City; also from the surrounding towns of Graettinger, Ruthven, Greenville, Spencer, Cherokee, Granville, May City, Paullina, Milford, Melvin, Sanborn, Primghar, Sutherland, Ashton and Sheldon.

Brothers George of Clovis, Calif., Dan and wife Margaret of Wakonda, S.D., Levit of Rhinebeck, N.Y., and sister Willma Patterson of Branson, Mo., were unable to attend because of the bad weather in their areas.
