EMMA FITZER

Mrs. John Fitzer, nee Emma Matilda Petersen, the daughter of Henry and Alvina Frick Petersen, was born Jan. 18, 1899, at Plessis, in O'Brien Co., Ia. She passed away on Jan. 9, 1969, in Hartley Community Hospital, at the age of 69 years, 11 mo., and 21 days.

She had attended the rural schools of O'Brien County and the Hartley High School. Most of her life had been spent in this community, with the exception of 15 years at Hope, N. Dak., from 1920 until 1935.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church here, and of the Rebekah Lodge, the Past Noble Grand, the Woman's Relief Corps, and the W.S.C.S. of the Methodist Church.

On June 28, 1916, she was united in marriage to John Fitzer, at Hartley. To them was born one daughter, Helen.
John preceded his wife in death in 1960. Also preceding her were her parents, and one sister, Bertha.

Left to cherish her memory are her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Baird of Superior, Nebr.; six grandchildren: Mrs. Richard Davidson of Coon Rapids, Minn.; Steven Baird now of Asmara, Ethiopia; Clifford Baird of Superior, Nebr.; Stanley Baird of Minneapolis; Kathryn Baird and Galen Baird, both of Mankato, Minn.; three great grandchild­ren; Scott and Craig Davidson, and Ricky Baird; one sister: Mrs. Ella Morris of Hartley; other relatives, and her many friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 13 at the United Methodist Church in Hartley with Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Pallbearers were Clare Byers, Everett Byers, R. B. Sampson, Wm. Meiske, Russel Sauer and Hobart Putnam. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery with Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
