Obituary

Mary Jane Shaft was born at Roch­ester, N.Y., March 15th, 1835. She moved to Wisconsin with her parents in 1845, where she was married to Benton Carpenter, Feb. 22, 1859. They moved to Iowa in 1880, and from here to Humansville, Missouri, in 1890, where she died March 23rd, 1900.

She leaves a husband, five sons and a sister, Mrs. J. L. Taylor, to mourn her untimely death. She was a true wife, a self sacrificing, devoted mother, and a faithful friend. By her cheerful and happy disposition she won the esteem and love of all who met her.

The body arrived at Hartley, her former home, on Monday, and tho funeral services were held at. the J. L. Taylor home, conducted by Rev. McBurney. The interment took place at the Hartley cemetery, where her son was laid to rest a few years since.
