OBITUARY.

FRANK CARPENTER—Died February 29th, 1888, aged 21 years. Frank was a young man of high attainments and noble aspirations. He was educating himself for the profession of school teaching and was engaged in school work at the time of his death. Congestion of the brain, through over study, is supposed to have been the cause of his demise.

He leaves parents and three brothers to mourn his departure.

His steadfast tempo, principles and willing efforts to advance the noble cause will over be great fully remembered and cherished in thw minds of his fellow workers in the Good Templar's Lodge. In the midst of noble plans and a promising future this young man was suddenly cut down by the hand of death. Thus it is no man has a guaranty of the future and the strongest youth like frail old age is liable to the sudden change that awaits all mankind.

Tho funeral services were held in the church, the pastor preaching a solemn and convincing sermon, After tho services in tho church the Good Templars took charge of the body and in their beautiful ceremony deposited the body in its last resting place. The following are some resolutions drawn up at the last meeting of tho Good Templars' Lodge:

RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT.

Whereas—It has pleased the All Wise to take from us one of our most worthy members, Bro. Frank Carpenter,

Therefore be it resolved.—That in the death of Bro. Carpenter, this lodge sustains tho loss of a loyal templar, a true friend and a worthy member of eur fraternity.
Further resolvod:—That the parents and friends of deceased have our heartfelt sympathy in this sad bereavement.
Further resolved:—That a copy of these resolutions be published in the Hartley Record.

Committee: C. H. Crawford, Mrs, E. Webster, Allen Croesan.

Only a few short weeks ago,
We grasped the friendly hand,
Of a brother kind, who was called away
to that bright and peaceful land.

Only a few short weeks ago,
We met the smiling face,
Of one who has left us here to weep,
Leaving a vacant place.

Only a few short weeks ago,
When we were a happy band,
Striving to do a noble work
And walking hand in hand.

But Death crept up with stealthy tread
And struck the fatal blow.
And we laid to rest the lifeless form
of our Brother beneath the snow.
