INDIANOLA—Services for Wayne Alan Vander Tuig, 59, of Indianola, who passed away while he was surrounded by family at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at First Assembly of God Church, Indianola, with burial following at the I.O.O.F. Wayne was born April 12, 1957, in Sheldon, Iowa, to Wilbur and Berendena (Bosman) Vander Tuig. He grew up in northwest Iowa and graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull in 1975. He attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Wayne and Sheila Andringa were married in 1977 in Sanborn, Iowa. Their 18-year marriage was blessed with two children, Seth and Abby.

In 1998, Wayne married Shelly Brinkman in Indianola. The two have enjoyed countless memories and great vacations together with some of their favorites being Washington, D.C., North Carolina, San Francisco, Aruba, and most recently, the Dominican Republic. They enjoyed spending time with their two granddaughters, Macey and Teresa, and taking care of their two golden retrievers, Lexi and Lola. Wayne and Shelly have been loyal supporters and season ticket holders of the Iowa State Cyclones for close to 20 years.

Wayne was a founding member of the Clone to the Bone Club in 1985 and enjoyed 31 consecutive Big 12 basketball tournaments, roughly 200 Cyclone football games, and witnessed many of Iowa State’s greatest highlights over the past few decades.

Wayne followed in his father’s footsteps with a career in banking. Wayne began at the National Bank of Waterloo and moved to Peoples Trust & Savings Bank in 1987. He embraced the Indianola community and after the bank was acquired by Regions Bank, he played an instrumental role in rebuilding a new Peoples Savings Bank, which opened in 1998. Wayne helped build the bank from a single location to five branches in two counties. He was employed as Executive Vice President/Cashier.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Berendena Vander Tuig.
