MRS. HEMAN GIBBS

Mrs. Heman Gibbs, a pioneer resident and highly respected woman of Sanborn, passed away-last Thursday Sanborn, passed away last Friday morning, February 3d, after an illness of several months. [sic]

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church on Saturday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. J. S. Swenk, being in charge. A mixed quartette rendered several selections and Rev. Swenk sang a solo. Interment was in Roseland cemetery.

Katie Tifft, daughter of Claudius and Mary E. Tifft, was born at Jamestown, Ky., July 2, 1854. The family left Kentucky December 27, 1864, locating at LaCrosse, Wise. After remaining there two years they moved to St. Paul, Minn., and from there to a homestead in O'Brien county, May 11, 1872.

On April 6, 1873, decedent was married to Heman Gibbs, eldest son of Samuel Gibbs, of O'Brien county. In November, 1879, Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs came to Sanborn and this place has been their home continuously since that time. To this union were born four sons, Harry C, Francis D., Milton B. and Benjamin H., all of whom survive.

Besides her husband, she also leaves to mourn twelve grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Francis Wood, and a brother, Scot D. Tifft, both of Sanborn.

In the forty-nine years of married life this is the first death to break the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs.

In 1901 Mrs. Gibbs united with the Presbyterian church in Sanborn, and remained a member to the time of her death.

To the sorrowing husband and the sons is extended the sympathy of a large circle of friends and acquaintances.
